STIMULU$ FOR NKSD (5/25 School Committee Meeting Notes)


Presented:

a draft of a plan for spending the $5.7M Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Federal funds to be received in Fiscal Year 22-23.

  • At least 20% must be spent alleviating COVID-related learning loss among low income students, multi-language learners, racial and ethnic minorities, students experiencing homelessness, and children in foster care.

  • Also in the plan: School facility repairs and upgrades to reduce the risk of virus transmission and improve indoor air quality.

More information on the complete plan will be shared as the administration and faculty make decisions.



Approved:

• the final new School Committee policy to ensure compliance with Title IX Rules as promulgated by the RI Department of Education regarding the School Department’s response to claims of sexual harassment and the maintenance of a learning environment free from harassment and discrimination on the basis of sex.

• several renewals of technology subscriptions

• appointment of Matthew Velino as NKHS Dean of Students

• Allocation back to faculty & staff of routine medical/dental cost savings during COVID


Recognized:

• NKHS for receiving a grant to train more faculty in Robotics and Engineering

• The Forest Park ES media specialist for receiving a grant to train this summer in coding as a second language
